We are seeking a post-doctoral Research Associate in Structural Biology to work in the Microbiology Section within the Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine at Imperial College London

The research project is aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms that allow bacteria of the Neisseriaceae family, most notably the human pathogen Neisseria meningitidis, to recognise their own DNA during natural transformation, a long-standing mystery. You will undertake experiments to elucidate the structure of a recently identifed DNA receptor and perform detailed structure/function analyses.

You will work under the supervision of Dr Vladimir Pelicic, and in close collaboration with Professor Steve Matthews. Dr Pelicic’s group is focused on understanding on a molecular basis the different aspects of the biology of one of the most widespread virulence factors in bacteria, the type IV pilus.

You will have a PhD or equivalent in Molecular Microbiology, Biochemistry, Structural Biology or a closely related discipline and a strong research background in Structural biology. You will also have experience within an academic research environment and publication in relevant and referred high quality journals.

This is a full-time, fixed-term post for 3 years based at the South Kensington Campus.

For any further information please contact Dr Vladimir Pelicic at v.pelicic@imperial.ac.uk .
